Comments on Proverbs 16:25: “There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death.”

“Way” = path, road, course of life, view of the world, or guiding philosophy
“Seems right” – the primary sources of humanity without Christ = human logic, pride, being self-directed, intuition (being guided by emotions), and unbelief. Many people do not accept that God is personal and involved in human history. Faith to them is a leap in the dark rather than stepping into the light.

Destination “destruction” – the thing about choosing a road is that it is often hard to tell that you are lost while you are busy traveling on it. There may be uneasiness or anxiety—uncertainty expressed, “Am I on the right road?” This is a point that people really struggle with about Christianity. They get turned off because they do not understand how we can be so sure that there is only one right road. How can literally billions of people in the world be wrong and headed to destruction? That is where Christ’s incarnation becomes so central and crucial. If God truly stepped into human history and declared Himself, that is the greatest reality of human experience, and if Christians believe it we ought to take the assignment of “rescuing the perishing and caring for the dying” more seriously. If I stood by a pool and watched a person drown without taking action I would be considered a soulless sociopath. Many people all around us are perishing but it is a slow, almost imperceptible death. They need to be warned and helped to safety. (For more see Acts 4:12, John 14:6, Ephesians 2:8-9, Romans 3:23, 6:23, 10:9-10, 13 and Titus 3:5.)
