Renovation of the Heart

I am reading Dallas Willard's book Renovation of the Heart. Like many of Willard's books, its focus is helping Jesus' followers develop Christian character। He uses an acrostic that is helpful in thinking about how to purposefully gain ground in discipleship. That acrostic is

V
I
M
It stands for:
Vision
Intention
Means

"Vision" means being able to envision the desireable realities of God's kingdom and purposes being formed in our lives (Matthew 6:33). "Intention" refers to commitment--being devoted to spiritual formation. Intent is not just thinking about discipleship; it is surrendering one's will to God. "Means" refers to the various habits and disciplines that move us on our journey.

Dallas Willard always challenges his readers to get under the surface and take discipleship from the head to the heart. His thoughts here about being an apprentice to Christ are practical and enlightening.
