Helping your church “get off the schneid”

The Urban Dictionary credits sportscaster Chris Berman with popularizing this saying. It basically means ending a drought or slump. In sports, it’s obvious when a team is going in the wrong direction. The team’s success is measured against past seasons and against the success of other franchises. How did they do in the standings? How about churches though? How can we tell if we are headed in the right direction? Can your association help? Probably. Here are some ways a church health assessment might be the ticket to ending the slump.
  • Statistical analysis – take a look at your church’s 10-15 year trend
  • Facility walk-through – provide an outsider’s perspective of church facilities
  • Evangelism training – help the church get focused outside the walls again
  • Biblical leadership training – what does biblical leadership look like? Is your church’s understanding of leadership helping or hindering?
  • Vision casting – help think tactically about why the church exists and how to do it better.
  • Ministry evaluation – what can the church do more effectively and efficiently?
  • Reporting and suggestions - provide detailed findings and make a report to the congregation

In the words of George Yates, many churches desperately need a “vigorous face to face summit with reality.” As difficult as that might sound, lots of worthwhile things are difficult and we would be happy to help you!
