Advent for Amateurs - Poems of Hope, Part 2

There were angels in the air, and Gabriel went, to Elizabeth's cousin Mary, as he was sent,

To announce the wonderful, troubling news, that she was with child and so as not to confuse,

"What looks to be scandalous is really God's favor, for your child, the Messiah, will be the world's Savior."

"Do not be afraid," Angels always say, "God's reign is arriving, carrying the day."

But Mary, still startled, asked, "How can this be? That a baby can come from a virgin like me?"

And Gabriel answered "This child is God's son, And this birth is a wonder, and here's another one,

Your cousin Elizabeth, the one who is barren, is carrying a child, so this journey she's sharing."

"For with God the Impossible will come to be."

"Then I'll see this as God's call and my destiny."
